Shri Shyam Jagannathan is a distinguished 1997-batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, currently serving as the Director General of Shipping in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, with the rank and pay of Additional Secretary to the Government of India. He assumed this role on July 3, 2023, following a successful tenure as the Zonal Development Commissioner of the Santacruz Exclusive Export Processing Zone (SEEPZ) in Mumbai. With over 25 years of administrative experience, his career includes pivotal postings such as Commissioner and Secretary of Finance in Assam, Deputy Commissioner in Meghalaya, and leadership roles in Kerala’s civil supplies and commercial taxes departments. An alumnus of Osmania University with a Master’s in Biochemistry, he is now focused on advancing India’s maritime interests through initiatives like Maritime India Vision 2030, emphasizing global safety standards, green port development, and the welfare of India’s vast seafarer community.
