Mr. Makarand Appalwar

Mr. Makarand Appalwar is the Chairman and Managing Director of Emmbi Industries Limited, a publicly listed global manufacturer of polymer-based and technical textile products. A first-generation entrepreneur, he founded Emmbi in 1994 and transformed it from a small trading enterprise into a leading international player in FIBCs (jumbo bags), protective liners, car covers, and agricultural packaging solutions.

With over two decades of experience in the polymer and technical textiles industry, he has driven the company’s growth through a strong focus on sustainability, product innovation, and scalable manufacturing excellence. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Maharashtra Institute of Technology, Pune, and is an alumnus of the MIT Sloan School of Management, Boston.

In recognition of his industry leadership, he was honored with the SME Excellence Award in the Manufacturing Sector by the SME Chamber of India. In December 2025, he was appointed Vice Chairman of the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP), an autonomous apex body under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. He is also associated as a director with Maithili Agrotech Pvt. Ltd. and the Indian Technical Textile Association.
