Dr. Rajesh S Gokhle, Secretary DBT

Dr. Rajesh Sudhir Gokhale is a prominent chemical biologist currently serving as the Secretary of Department of Biotechnology and the Director General of the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC). An alumnus of IIT Bombay and Indian Institute of Science, he is globally recognized for his pioneering research on the metabolic pathways of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and the skin disorder Vitiligo. Before his leadership role in the Indian government, Dr. Gokhale served as the Director of the CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB) and co-founded Vyome Biosciences. His scientific excellence has been honoured with the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize and the Infosys Prize in Life Sciences, reflecting his dual impact as a researcher and a key architect of India’s biotechnology policy.
