
Prof (Dr) Karbhari Kale

Prof. (Dr.) Karbhari Vishwanath Kale is the Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University (DBATU), Lonere–Raigad, a State Technological University of Maharashtra. He is a distinguished academic leader and researcher with more than 36 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic administration at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. He also served as the Vice-Chancellor (additional charge) of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) for over a year. Recently, he was conferred the Honorary Colonel rank by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India.
Earlier, he served as a Senior Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (BAMU), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where he held several important leadership positions including Director of the Board of College and University Development (BCUD), Director of the University Network & Information Center (UNIC), and Head of the Department of CSIT. He also served as President of the ICT Section of the Indian Science Congress Association (2015–2016).
Prof. Kale is a pioneer in Multimodal Biometrics and Remote Sensing Data Analysis and established the Multimodal Biometrics Research Laboratory (MBRL), a national-level research facility focusing on biometrics, GIS, pattern recognition, and advanced image processing technologies. His research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, Remote Sensing & GIS, Big Data Analytics, IoT, and Pattern Recognition.
He has an outstanding academic record with over 370 research publications, 6 books, and 23 book chapters, and has guided more than 40 Ph.D. scholars. His work has received over 2500 citations, and he holds two Australian and two Indian patents, with several others published. He has also secured major research funding from agencies such as DST, UGC, RUSA, Media Lab, and MeitY.
Prof. Kale has received several prestigious awards including the National Geospatial Faculty Fellow Award (Government of India), ICT Researcher of the Year Award, ACS Digital Disruptors Award, SEARCC International Award, Pearcey Foundation Award (Australia), and Vijay Shree Award. His achievements have also been featured in Who’s Who in the World (USA).
