
Dr. W. S. Lakra Secretary, NAAS
Dr. Wazir Singh Lakra (W. S. Lakra) is a distinguished fisheries scientist currently serving as the Secretary of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), New Delhi. With a career spanning over four decades, he has held several high-ranking positions within the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), including Director and Vice-Chancellor of the Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), Mumbai, and Director of the National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR), Lucknow. His research expertise covers fish genetics, biotechnology, and aquatic biodiversity management, and he has published over 350 research papers. A recipient of numerous accolades, including the Dr. Rajendra Prasad ICAR National Award and the VASVIK Industrial Research Award, Dr. Lakra has been instrumental in advancing India’s “Blue Revolution” through his work on DNA barcoding and the genetic improvement of farmed fish.
